Syket - Let It Heal

I had posted Tiger Forest Cat a couple weeks ago which is the solo project of Syket's drummer. I feel both bands are quite different, I'm having trouble picking who I prefer. If had to choose right now, I think I'd prefer Syket. I am not sure if it's the moody tune, or the exquisite lyrics. The one thing I am sure of is this song hit the spot.

Merely - Lava

If you are a fan of the Cocteau Twins, you will love this or at least I hope you will. Ethereal vocals to whisk you away into another dream like state. Varsågod!

The Royal Concept - DD-DAnce

I hope you will go into this weekend dancing to this song. Fun dance worthy beats, peppy guitar. It's worthy of a happy Friday post. So raise a glass and dance!

Throwback Thursday - Ode to Kent

Using this Throwback Thursday as a dedication to one of my favorite bands. I first heard Kent on a compilation album I won't at the Los Angeles County Fair when one of the KROQ DJ's challenged me to remove my shoelaces in 30 secs. I tend to attach music to memories, so this is the memory I will cherish that brought Kent into my life. So 15 year old me goes home and puts on the CD. The first song was Blur's Beetlebum and then some other crap music and this Kent song...

I eventually went out and bought their full record, Isola. This record has so many memories wrapped around it of late teens and early 20s. And I can't think of many albums that I can listen to from start to finish. But I do have my favorites. This was a very tough choice but I've narrowed it down to two.

One of the most lyrically beautiful songs I have heard, 747 (We Ran Out of Time)

So those of you who are familiar with Kent, know that they release two albums in both Swedish and English. The memory attached to their album Hagnesta Hill will be hearing it for the first time in Swedish. I didn't do this intentionally, but my awesome brother had worked for a record distributor so I had him order me a bunch of CDs. One being Hagnesta Hill, well when it arrived it was the Swedish version. I didn't care, I put that on and day dreamed that I knew what the songs were about. In those days, YouTube did not exist and music wasn't as readily available as it is now. You had to search for it. I remember the day I walked into Rhino Records in Claremont, walked over to Kent and found Hagnesta Hill in English. I probably squealed as any music lover would finding a treasure they've been looking for. Once I heard the album in English, it quickly moved it's way into my top albums of all time. Below are my favorites from it. The lyrics are amazing, beautiful and heartfelt.

My main thing with this blog is to feature Swedish bands who write English songs, so I will stop featuring their music here. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't give their Swedish stuff a try. I am sure the lyrics are as beautiful and the songs are as touching as these two albums. Please Kent translate more songs, or maybe I need to actually use that Swedish Rosetta Stone copy I have. Good luck with that! ;)

Tross - Stig Berglings Saga

I was telling my friend Erica how I wanted to start looking for things that were not electro pop. It has become a little frustrating. So I began to go on a hunt. I found Tros. I was intrigued, so I clicked and I have to say I really enjoyed this. Not sure exactly how to classify it. Interesting, psychedelic, surfy rock!

The Forest and The Trees - Missions

With their sophomore album being released yesterday, The Forest and The Trees are giving me happy fuzzy warm feelings. Released today, you can check out the whole album on Spotify. Missions is a a great start and I have probably listened to it ten times already. This dreamy pop fest is completed with beautiful lyrics and sweet vocals. The whole album is a treat for the ears. Enjoy!

Amason - Went to War

Members of Swedish indie pop bands have come together to create something lovely. Amason consists of Amanda Hollingby Matsson, Pontus Winnberg, Petter Winnberg from Little Majorette , Gustav Ejstes from Dungen and Nils Tornqvist. They were also nominated in the Swedish 2014 Grammys for best newcomer. I absolutely love it!

Nottee - Fire

Another one recommended by Andrew, perfect weekend music! Her album comes out this coming Monday.(hopefully) It's available in Sweden now. Guess I need to do some insider trading with my friend who lives in Jönköping.

Join the Riot - Buckle Up

I don't know why the beginning of this song makes me think I should be riding on the back of Falkor flying through the skies of Fantasia.(To give you a visual, I've included a bad or awesome photoshop job of me riding Falkor. You decide if it's bad or awesome) When I saw the name Join the Riot, I thought this was going to definitely be something that I didn't like. Guess you can't judge a book by its cover. The EP is made up of dancey and smooth grooves that make you want to lounge or dance. I chose this song just because of my NeverEnding Story vision also when I read the lyrics it touch a soft spot. Put on my radar by my awesome Twitter pal Andrew Leigh, Tussilago is a perfect treat for a sleepy Saturday or a rainy day.  As a lover of shoe gaze, I instantly enjoyed their songs. Also, I have to comment that they are strikingly attractive and that their drummer is Lykke Li's brother. Thanks Andrew!

Took me a few listens but I am really digging this. Makes me want to dance, and as we know I love dancing. There has to be something in the water in Sweden to where they generate so much awesome electro pop.

Sweet cutesy twee vocals. I was ho humming my way around one day and I stumbled upon this. Sooo cute!

Kate Boy - The Way We Are

Kate Boy reminds me of the Knife and it makes me want to dance like a banshee around my apartment. I love moody synth heavy electro pop!

Summer Heart - U Got All I'm Looking 4

This song makes me happy! I'm absolutely in love with it. It's magical, adorable and simply gorgeous.

Röyksopp & Robyn - Sayit

I am completely jealous of those(and Brother Oblivious cause he's going in Cali) seeing Röyksopp & Robyn on August 20th because I really want to drink a little and dance to this on the Hudson.

Ji Nilsson - Heartbreakfree

I've fallen in love with Ji Nilsson since I heard her duet with Marlene. I was excited to find out she released an official video and I absolutely love the song too. And I am stepping away from the dream pop to give you some dancey pop.

Throwback Thursday - Peter Bjorn & John - Young Folks

Only fond memories of when I lived in Los Angeles of this song. I use to listen to it on repeat, there is something about it that just makes me smile and dance.

It's Throwback Thursday and I'm thrownin' it back to the amazing Taken by Trees! After Victoria Bergsman left the Concretes she formed Taken by Trees and I am so glad she did because music would be sad without her beautiful voice and well written heart felt lyrics.

Lykke Li - Never Gonna Love Again

So I didn't want to post anything until I heard the whole album a few times and could make an executive decision on what my favorite song was. Yesterday, Lykke Li released a highly anticipated third album, "I Never Learn" After listening to the album about 20 times, I have decided my favorite song is "Never Gonna Love Again." Highly relatable lyrics paired with Lykke's unique lovely vocals make this song a beautiful power ballad pleasure for the ears. What can I say about the whole album in one word? Heartbreak. But the greatness of this album did not break my heart cause I'm still in love with Lykke!

Tiger Forest Cat - New York New York

Love this artist's name! Though its called "New York New York" I'm pretty sure the video was filmed in Paris. So take a moment and sit back in your chair and just enjoy!

So I am going to do something I normally steer clear of(other than Throwback Thursday, cause that's fun), this is the new thing I found out from seeing my cousin post pictures of girls with the hashtag "wcw" which means Woman Crush Wednesday. Now my crush isn't necessarily based on physical beauty(though she is gorgeous), it's more based on admiration. Nina Persson has been in my life since I was just a wee lil lass growing up in La Puente, CA. Now let's move away from that. Now a break from the Cardigans, I present to you another one of Nina's projects A Camp. I have called this song my theme song. Here is Frequent Flyer.

I know every girl can relate this next song. Another one of my all time favorite songs, I use to sing this to my ex all the time. Jerk! But never mind him. Off my favorite Cardigans album Long Gone Before Daylight. Here is For What It's Worth...

Now I've either started sounding like Casey Casem doing a radio show, annoyed you to pieces, or have brought on sadness as we have reached the last Cardigans Album. Please please release another…But off of Super Extra Gravity a song that has hit me quite recently, Losing A Friend.

I am going to squeeze in a song featuring the lovely Nina by the Manic Street Preachers. Out of all the songs she's collaborated on this is one of my favorites.

And right when you think no more Nina, 2009 comes along and A Camp comes back with a second album. I remember the first time I got to see Nina live was with A Camp at the Troubadour with my lovely bro and his friend Christopher(a fellow Swede lover) I remember hearing this song live, and claiming it. Yeah I have a lot of favorite songs. Get over it. But here is possibly one of the most beautifully written songs to ever grace our ears. I always imagined this song being put to a movie or on stage cause its just so pretty. Off Colonia, here is Golden Teeth and Silver Medals.

And now we fast forward to 2014, Nina has many projects under her belt but this is her first Solo album. And what can I say, I fall in admiration of her more and more every time I listen to the album. The tough task on this one was finding what song was my favorite song. So I was between Clip Your Wings, Silver and Forgot to Tell You. I wanted to wait cause she had given a teaser for Clip Your Wings, but instead I have decided that the one song I can't get enough of is Silver(I also couldn't find a good video version of Forgot to Tell You). So here it is...

I don't want this journey to end, but since it has to end. I will end and close with a cover. I wonder what Brenda would think about this version of R.E.M's Losing my Religion. Would she play it on repeat like I have…Hmmm?

And with that the journey through Nina's career has to stop. But that does not mean you shouldn't go out and purchase all Cardigans, A Camp and her solo work. I highly recommend it and you won't regret it. And lastly Nina if you ever stumble upon this, I love you for writing so many songs that have molded the soundtrack of my life, healed my broken heart, and gave me hope in love. You are a genius!

Alpaca Sports - Just like Johnny Marr

Another great one from the label Luxury Records. I absolutely love this poppy goodness, which I personally think is better than Johnny Marr's solo work. Not that the reference affects my impression of the song cause I absolutely adore it. Twee popping my body to its rhythm. As you know, I must also comment on how damn good looking this poppy duo is. Take me back to Sweden now!

Sumie - Midnight Glories

This beautiful melody and relaxing vocals can put you into a lovely slumber. Sumie is amazing and you should open your ears and let her enchant you.

Beatrice Eli - Girls

Fun Fun Fun! That's how I describe this song. Poppy fun, straight forward lyrics. And though I'm not into girls, this song is stuck in my head. I keep singing the chorus over and over again.

Moto Boy - Someday

Something about the look in his eyes entrances me. Off his recent album, "Someday" is a romantic melody that pulls you in. The video focuses on his beautiful face, which I really don't mind.

Postiljonen - All That We Had Is Lost

Based out of Stockholm, Postiljonen is a trio of dream poppy loveliness. I feel like I'm cheating her because the beautiful vocals are provided by the lovely yet Norwegian Mia Bøe. But since 2/3rd of the band are Swedish, I feel alright! I give them props for incorporating parts of Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know?" Let their music take you away into a day dream of forest frolicking and chasing your loved one into a field of flowers touched with morning dew.

Cardigans - My Favourite Game

It's Throwback Thursday again and why not feature one of my favorite bands, The Cardigans. I don't know how many times I've blasted this song because of some idiot guy. Love this song!

Ji Nilsson and Marlene - Love You Anyway

I know I featured Marlene on Monday, but I couldn't resist to post this wonderful song about friendship. It features her with the amazing Ji Nilsson. I can just imagine if I was an interpretative dancer, all the interpretive dancing I would do to this song. I've been listening to it on repeat!

The Sun Days - Don't need to be them

So in high school one of my favorite bands was The Sundays. Well now out of Sweden we have the Sun Days, and I think I love them as much as I love The Sundays. They are yet another fantastic band to come off Luxury Records. I heard this song and I started bopping my head and swaying my body. Happy dancey music time!

Luha – Lullaby

So I'm hung over and tired, but I don't want to miss a post so today I will present to you, Luha! Love her voice, love this song. I really don't know what else to say about her because she's so secretive. Her song "Lullaby" makes me want to go into a state of dream poppy satisfaction.

The Mary Onettes - Your Place

My favorite of their new album Portico. I am super bummed that I will have to miss their show on May 3rd. I love that this band is from Jönköping. The lovely Swedish town I celebrated New Years in this year. If you love dream pop but are tired of all the similar sounding female vocals check out Mary Onettes.

Call me - Disclosed

Another one from Göteborg's Luxury Records, Call me's "Disclosed" is reminiscent of the vocal stylings of the Cocteau Twins, with the back beats of The Knife. When I first clicked, I thought oh this sounds like the knife, then the vocals kicked in and I was in utter bliss. The piano within the song is just beautiful! Dreamy, absolutely dreamy,I want to go on a journey through song.

I Break Horses - You Burn

Recommended by Brother Oblivious, recommended this awesome synth pop shoegazing goodness from Stockholm.  Her voice is hauntingly beautiful. "You Burn" is featured on their album released earlier this year "Chiaroscuro"; art history term to define the contrast between light and dark. I can definitely hear it within this album as some songs make me want to get up and move and others make me want to drown into a bed full of pillows. I just found out they are playing NYC next week and will try to see them at Mercury Lounge. I have plans for their Rough Trade show but you should definitely try and check them out!

Roxette - The Look

To honor the 25th anniversary of "The Look" two days ago, I am featuring Roxette. A childhood fave of Brother Oblivious and I. I find it incredible that I haven't listened to this song in years and I still remember the lyrics. New Karaoke song? Maybe..."She goes na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na…she's got the look"

School - Head Over Here

Signed to Gothenburg's Luxury Records, School is a dream pop delight! They remind me of one of my other new favorites Blessa out of the UK. (check them out if you haven't already) School is teasing me with just three songs on Soundcloud. I also give them props on their tv show tastes.

Alice Boman - What

How can a song so sad be so beautiful...more like hauntingly beautiful. That is how I would describe Alice Boman's first single off her new EP. The first time I listened, I couldn't decide if I wanted to smile or cry. I was merely captivated and I hope you are too.

Marlene - Stay Awake

American Pop and R&B singers...watch and learn. Not only is she beautiful, her voice is magnificent. I've always been a sucker for a song with a good beat! Would it be wrong to call her the Swedish Beyonce? Oh check this one out too...

Weeping Willows - (We're In) Different Places

Absolutely positively one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Brother Oblivious beat me to posting this song, so I delayed my posting by two days. It's been 7 years too long since Weeping Willows released an album and it's well worth the wait. If you like Trashcan Sinatras, let Weeping Willows grace your ears with beautiful melodies and captivating lyrics.

Those Dancing Days - I'll Be Yours

Just as their name suggests, this lil poppy song will have you dancing for days. Hailing for a suburb outside of Stockholm, Those Dancing Days is indie pop goodness. Also, while researching them I found out that they were picked personally by my favorite Belle and Sebastian to play their Bowlie Weekender festival in 2010. If they are alright by Stuart, they are alright by me! Now get ready to dance your socks off!

Tove Lo - Habits

Love love love this song. It's a great mix of indie pop and dance. She was recommended to me by my friend Tina, but I had found her the day before. I am so happy to have stumbled upon this beautiful dancey masterpiece. Her EP "Truth Serum" released on March 3rd. It features great songs like "Habits" and "Out of Mind" It's the perfect breakup music to blast! Click below to experience the greatness that is Tove Lo.

First Aid Kit - The Lion's Roar

I couldn't find a newer video so I will go with my favorite song by them. First Aid Kit is a Swedish Folk Duo with breathtaking songs that warm my ears. These two sisters are reminiscent of folks best singers and their lyrics are simply amazing. I love a good folk song that makes you feel something. Check out this beautifully composed song below.

Eternal Death - Head

So when Brother Oblivious first sent this link to me, I thought what the hell is this some death metal band. It's the exact opposite. Sweet vocals, electronic dance beat, enchanting lyrics. I've been playing it on repeat for the last hour. If you like awesome synth pop…please click below!

Like Swimming - Go Buffalo

Like Swimming is Sweden's latest Indie Pop Trio. They epitomize everything that is indie pop. When I first heard this song I was laying on my couch sick, and it instantaneously picked me up. It makes you want to get up and dance. They make lyrics like "We are all going to die in the summer" sound super happy and fun. This is indie pop at its best. Check them out if you haven't already!

Lykke Li - Love Me Like I'm Not Made of Stone

What can I say about Lykke Li other than that she is amazing. Her music holds a special place in my heart as her lyrics are always on subjects I relate to. You hear the pain in her amazingly melancholic voice. She is currently touring but grabbing a ticket may be a hard task. I luckily will be seeing her at the Apollo Theater in May! Here is a new one from her highly anticipated new forthcoming album "I Never Learn" Lykke, you are truly amazing!

Goat - Run to Your Mama

Recommended by my friend Tony, Goat from Korpilombolo is a psychedelic musical fusion made to feel your ears with delight. Their beats make you want to get up and groove. If their story is true, Korpilombolo is a Swedish town with roots in Voodoo. So open your mind and let Goat take you into a trance.

Her Bright Skies - Bonnie and Clyde

I had the honor of ringing in the New Year this past year with a few of these awesome lads. They also allowed my best friend Jackie and I the chance to show them what an American Thanksgiving is like by cooking them a huge giant meal and showed them what salsa should taste like. They are not just great guys. They are also gifted and talented musicians. Listen to their recently released video "Bonnie and Clyde." Until I go back to Sweden to cook for all of you again…Keep on Rockin!

I wish I had found out about Solander sooner. They are playing tonight at Pianos and Cake Shop in NYC and Saturday at Union Hall in Brooklyn. They are a delightfully attractive band of indie pop/folk goodness. Check them out.

The Concretes - I Wish We Never Met

Out of Stockholm, The Concretes are a Swedish Pop Group with amazing melodic songs. This song comes from their 2010 Album "WYWH" You should definitely give them a listen. This song really touches My heart right now. I absolutely love the intro. Enjoy!

Swedish Music is awesome!

This was the first band other Abba and the Cardigans that made me start to explore Swedish music. I had won a music compilation at a county fair from the KROQ(a radio station California) I was 16 and it was the best prize I had ever won. I won it by removing my shoe laces the fastest from my shoes. The song below was on this CD along with Blur's "Beetlebum"and Mazzy Star's "Flowers in December" those were the only three songs I listened to. They helped define and mold what my music taste is today…Brit Pop, Dream Pop and…Swedish Music. I will be including so many different genres in this blog, and you may even get a song or two in Swedish. So enjoy!
